Iranian cuisine includes a wide variety of food ranging from Kabab (roasted meat), Khoresh (stew that is served with Chelo) , Chelo (White rice served with Khoresh), kuku  (vegetable soufflé), , Polo (rice served alone or with the addition of meat, vegetables and herbs, like) and a diverse variety of salads, such as Shirazi salad, Pastries and drinks specific to different parts of Iran.

A good Persian cook has an almost miraculous ability to turn simple ingredients into dishes of great taste and beauty. Many ingredients are native to Iran, including rice, pistachio, walnut, saffron, mint, oranges, pomegranates and grapes.

Most of Iran's excellent food is confined to the kitchen of the family home. If you are lucky enough to be invited to an Iranian home for dinner, you should without doubt accept. The meal may well be set on the floor, sometimes without utensils.
