About the province Bushehr
Iran Tourism, province is located in south of Iran with an arid and semi-arid climate. The term “Bushehr” is the modification of Bokht Ardashir, meaning the city of Ardashir`s salvation. It is said that Bushehr has been built over the ruins of an ancient port named Rishahr or Ram-e Ardashir, an ancient human settlement in 2nd millennium Bc.
Some historians believe that Ardashir_e_Babakan, the first king of Sassanid Empire, was the founder of the ancient city if Rishahr. During Achaemenid era, when Iran was consisting of 30 satrapies (province), Bushehr belonged to pars satrapy.
When Darius the Great ordered to dig a west-east canal (Suez canal) to connect persian Gulf and Oman Sea to Egypt and Mediterranean regions through the Red Sea, Achaemenes soldiers were settled in khark Island and been commanded to guard this lengthy sea path. Bushehr once was a small village during Nader shah realm.
Later, due to his special attention and the settlement of sea force and construction of a huge wharf, it turned to become a very important port in Iran, even more important than Bandar Abbas port. This region had a major economical and strategic importance during the imposed war (Iran_Iraq War).
